About the project

"Utkano pod kožu" (Woven under the skin) is a group exhibition of six female artists, gathered around the common topic of female heritage. In their creation, they blend traditional and digital media.

They question their relations to their own bodies and voices, relationships with their partner, sex and gender roles they play or notice in their families, in society, at work and elsewhere. The emphasis is on issues that have come to light during the lockdown and the Covid – 19 pandemic. The exhibition is conceived as a review of a specific period from a female perspective.

The newly created circumstance of self-isolation significantly affected the production and distribution of artwork. The goal is to, in the given conditions, present current works to a wider audience through online media. At the same time, the aim is to highlight relevant social issues, incite artistic cooperation and promote shifting of boundaries between traditional and contemporary media. The project has been realized within the Digital Adjustment Programme of the Ministry of Culture and Media of the Republic of Croatia.

Authors

The project "Utkano pod kožu" (Woven under the skin) was initiated by two artists - Ivana Ognjanovac and Mare Šuljak. Through their artistic practice, they explore cooperation and communication models. All the participants have already dealt with female issues in their artwork. They spontaneously connected through the topic of female heritage, which was the expected course of the project development, and the reason for inviting these particular artists to participate.
