Memory box - Vesna Šantak

The box is made of postcards. I don’t know who made it, but I remember it from a young age. So, it was created somewhere in the '60s. The box has always contained needles, threads, and later a few nails, screws ... A box made of postcards evokes past times when we had deeper, more intimate communication with postcards and letters. The box, in addition to needles and thread, preserves memories of the time of socializing, togetherness, family, connection, which are unfortunately lost in this fast-paced time. We used to look forward to postcards with curiosity in the mailbox. Postcards were mostly written by women in my family. My mom loved to write postcards. She wrote them so many times, on the way home from work, or the market, to share the thought or feelings of that moment. Postcards always cheered us up, the attention and time someone gave us. We kept the received postcards tucked behind the glass of the "garden", leaning on a table with a vase of flowers or on the refrigerator. The box of memories is reminiscent of a time when there was no alienation, no conditioning on technology when we lived simpler and more connected to each other. This Box is connected to 3 generations of women in my family, who stored threads, needles, buttons in the Postcard Box.
