We all have a favourite pair of socks which we like to wear so much, and then suddenly, everything is ruined by a – toe sticking out of a hole! The easiest thing to do would be to throw them away and buy new ones. Socks are not that expensive, aren’t they? However, there is a certain charm in a needle and thread, in turning to skills taught to us by our mothers and grandmothers. My mum showed me the ball technique. You put the ball in the sock, tighten it, take some thread and a needle, and the hole is gone in a flash!
