Invitation to participate in a platform on  women’s heritage

Each one of us has their own methods of navigating through a “peculiar” reality. Some of them have been woven under our skin by society, and others have been painfully gained so that later we can spontaneously draw them out like aces up our sleeves and fight for them with blood. We elevate each of these methods to the extent of them becoming a myth or at least house rules and we nurture them and un/consciously pass them on.

Clothes airers as panel dividers in the function of establishing boundaries and enclosing personal space, “going out for coffee” to the driver’s and passenger’s seat of a car parked in front of the house, deeply meditative states of moving the furniture around the flat, solving administrative tasks while on the toilet, gaining insight and writing down the essence of life in the course of staring at the water that is boiling right now, feeling of absolute independence and victory over the demon of powerlessness after fixing household problems, practicing yoga on that one square meter area between the cactus, the armchair and the dustbin, serious discussion with the person in the mirror, health counselling via whatsapp group and evaluation of the situation a few days later via zoom, singing the instructions or leaving messages on post-it notes to those who “can’t hear” us, worshiping our late grandmothers by safe keeping a banknote in an obsolete currency that she gave us as a gift for “God forbid” cases, selfie as a form of keeping a diary, disembodying you expected “femininity” while playing with children, brushes and laundry clips that are used as a hairband, garden in a jar, atelier on the balcony, ...

Alices in Wonderland, Pippi Longstockings, etc., we know them all and we call upon them if necessary.

By exchanging scenes and stories that depict our living habits we want to celebrate the diversity of the fantastic mechanisms of woman’s self-organisation and resilience! Primarily, we want to contribute to the normalisation of all the states we find ourselves in and all the feelings from which our personal patterns of behaviour grow, encourage reflection on gender in/equality and give space for the current tension to grow into recognition, compassion, tears or laughter.
